An epoxy coating is formed when a mixture of epoxy resin & hardener is combined. The two mixed components quickly heat & react whilst being applied to the floor and shortly after will dry as an extremely hardened coating. The result is a smooth, durable surface which is heat, scratch, impact & chemical proof and extremely easy to clean.
Epoxy coatings are extremely versatile and are used for a number of applications. Due to their heat resistance, they are perfect for any concrete surface where vehicles with hot tyres may be driving. Their chemical resistance also makes them perfect for mechanical workshops or commercial kitchens where chemicals might be used. We have applied epoxy coatings in all sorts of environments such as warehouses, wedding venues, residential garages, barber shop floors and home salons.
If using a commercial grade epoxy which is applied by a professional, your epoxy coating should last a lifetime. This, of course will only happen too if you properly clean and maintain your floor. We currently offer a 3 year warranty on all our floors against bubbling, flaking & peeling, but we hope as our business grows and expands that we can soon extend our warranty period for your peace of mind.
Our average epoxy flake floor coatings are charged at around $68 per square metre as a rough guide. This is dependent on the size of the job, whether there is already a coating on the floor, the colour chosen, if there are cracks in the concrete & other factors. Please contact us directly for an exact quote of your area.
This depends on the size of the job. A standard epoxy garage takes us anywhere between 2-3 days/visits to install.
Once an epoxy job is entirely finished and the polyaspartic topcoat has been applied, you just need to let it cure for 24 hours - then you can go about life as normal.
You can try, but we don't recommend it! Bunnings and similar stores do sell cheap, waterbased 'epoxy' products for DIY application. The difficulty with these waterbased products are, they are thinned down for ease of use by amaterus so much that they barely resemble an epoxy at all. If the surface also isn't ground down and prepped properly, you're guaranteed after all your hard work that the epoxy coating will just bubble and peel - sometimes instanly. We have fixed many, many DIY epoxy jobs. We recommend not to waste your $500 at Bunnings and just to pay a professional who uses professional products.
The short answer is no, they're not. This is why we use a special polyaspartic top coat on all of our coatings to ensure their longevity. This is one of the reasons we stand out from our competitors, in ensuring our epoxy coated floors last a lifetime and do not discolour in the sun.
There are a few big red flags to watch out for when seeking an epoxy quotation.
If you hear these statements - run fast!
A good indication of some of these issues comes down to price - you will get what you pay for!
